Brooding Storm captures the hushed anticipation of an approaching storm. Charles Cherry uses soft, sweeping washes and subtle tonal shifts to convey the weight of gathering clouds across an open landscape. The distant tree line is reduced to a dark silhouette, grounding the composition while allowing the sky to dominate with its brooding presence. Layers of moody blue, slate gray, and warm underglow suggest motion and tension, yet the scene remains still—holding its breath. With minimalist composition and masterful control of wet-in-wet technique, this piece speaks to the quiet drama and solemn beauty of nature on the verge of change.
