Description
Original painting: Watercolor on paper, 10 × 8 in
This Old House is a quiet tribute to the weathered dignity of timeworn architecture. Charles Cherry renders the crumbling stone façade and sloping hillside with earthy warmth and subtle texture, highlighting the cracks and patina that speak of long-forgotten stories. The composition is stark and solitary—an aging structure with dark, empty windows peering out over a barren slope, while the suggestion of distant trees fades into pale sky. A lone jar on the sill hints at lingering memory or presence. With its restrained palette and haunting simplicity, the painting evokes nostalgia, silence, and the quiet endurance of place.
